What follows is an overview
of last night's SLAS board and general meetings.
More complete, official
minutes will be published in the next Nova.
Charlie Green will work with
the SLAS webmaster to update the on line SLAS roster.
Ken Warner is working on
ways to improve the monthly and annual SLAS contests.
Effective with the next
issue, members will receive the club newsletter via the internet unless they
tell the club secretary treasurer they prefer to receive a paper copy.
SLAS has been accepted by
NASA's Night Sky Network. Many materials
have already been received.
Members wishing to know the
status of school star parties should check the club's web site the afternoon of
the day of the star party. Ann House
will post a notice if the event has been canceled.
Members wishing to sign up
for school star parties may do so by using the SLAS web site or by sending Ann
House an email at ann@annhouse.org .
Ann House is the new SLAS
loaner telescope custodian.
Deloy Pierce outlined
several programs offered by the Astronomical League.
Siegfried Jachmann presented
the club a check for $12,500 ( http://planet.state.ut.us/slas/patrickw/PATRICKW671.JPG
). This was a donation from Leucadia
Corporation for the Refractor House.
Siegfried arranged for the donation.
There is a SPOC clean up set
for this coming Saturday starting at
Siegfried Jachmann announced
that the SPOC Committee has tentatively set a grand opening for both
observatories at SPOC for 17 September of this year.
Joan Carman outlined plans
for the next "SLAStrofest" to be held at the

month's Astronomy Day activities at SPOC. Those who can help were asked to

Patrick Wiggins showed a
number of pictures returned from Mars Global Surveyor, Mars Express and the two
Mars rovers. Some of the images were 3d
and required the audience to wear 3D glasses ( http://planet.state.ut.us/slas/patrickw/PATRICKW672.JPG
).
Nate Goodman announced that the new star party brochures are available.
